About the Flour Advisory Bureau (FAB Flour)
FAB Flour
Since 1956, the Flour Advisory Bureau (FAB Flour) has provided information on all matters relating to flour, including its relation to bread and baking, in the United Kingdom (UK). Its audiences include the public, the media, schools, health professionals, and the catering, retail, and baking sectors. FAB Flour focuses on promoting the variety, versatility, vitality, and nutritional value of bread. FAB Flour is a resource for everyone who enjoys baking and cooking at home, and its aim is to promote the role of flour as part of a balanced diet through a wide range of educational materials and recipes.
FAB Flour is part of UK Flour Millers, the trade association for flour millers, and is funded by its members.
Flour and bread nutrition
FAB Flour aims to encourage people to eat more flour-filled foods like bread as part of a healthy, balanced diet. It communicates the nutritional benefits of flour and bread through a range of activities, such as Fibre February which FAB Flour initiated in 2017, and its goal is to demonstrate the positive contribution bread makes to the UK diet.
Across all its activities, FAB Flour establishes partnerships with recognised authorities in relevant fields, and works with a wide range of experts to ensure that its information is consistent, accurate, and based on sound science.
Food - a fact of life partnership
Food – a fact of life (FFL) is an educational resource developed in collaboration with British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) and Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB). It provides school pupils from Key Stages 1 to 4 and their teachers with a engaging ways to learn about the journey from field to fork, covering how wheat is grown and used to produce bread and cereals, as well as offering guidance on healthy eating.
Developed with input from teachers, Food – a fact of life provides up-to-date visual materials, including activity sheets, games, and quizzes. These resources cover the key themes of arable farming, milling, baking, cooking, and nutrition. Many of our resources have been shared with the organisation, and we continue to collaborate to ensure teachers and pupils have the information they need about flour and flour-based products.
